The passing of the mantle from Elijah to Elisha symbolized the passing of prophetic authority to Elisha. We do not know exactly what the mantle looked like, but it apparently was a cloak made of cloth. Explain that the prophet Elijah wore a mantle. You may want to use the following activity (or one of your own) to begin the lesson.ĭrape a piece of cloth around your shoulders (or around the shoulders of a class member). If you use the attention activity, bring a piece of cloth to use as a mantle.
